I'm an avid fan of the chaser's... I don't necessarily think that they're really funny. Sometimes the joke can get on them when it appears that they're trying too hard. But their bravery to do the unthinkable gets me on the edge of my seat sometimes and those skits they do, my god.. let's just say that they are the ones most of the Australian politicians and celebrities do not look forward to meet someday... But they're the most watched series by white collars and blue collars in Australia. Says a lot doesn't it?
Well, the APEC security scare stunt was probably one of the best they have done but sadly, the clip is not available on youtube... so some of you might miss out on what these guys are really on about. So, I'll just describe it succinctly for you. Chas (who is always been asked to do the dirtiest jobs) got dressed up like an Afghan (or what they would call like a "terrorist")and got into a limousine to impostor the Canadian motorcade. Suprisingly, they got through 2 check points at the red zone that is completely off limts to any civilians.
In a security zone that has been locked down in a 3 metre height and 5km long fence, they managed to get as far as the most secured zone (ie the hotel where Bush was living in). The boys realised that they went too far and decided to pull out before entering more check points and possibly just granted access regardless of the lack of security passes. Ican just imagine the looks on the policemen faces when they saw a man dressed up like that stepping out of the car and greeting them. Well, so much for 150 million taken of the tax payers' money just to let anyone with a motorcade pass by...
The next day, the Sydney police commisioner came out with a statement saying, "Well, the chaser's might think they're funny but they're not"... well, they say jokes get unfunny when you're the butt of it.. hehehehehe. The chaser's made it into CNN and BBC making them the biggest comodity out of the APEC summit... I'm proud of them :)
just for a taste of what the chaser's are all about, i got a few clips of my personal favourites... enjoy

Inspirations
i have been losing the inspiration to write nowadays.. i wonder if it's due to the unavailability of Internet in my room for quite sometime.. or is it due to the inadequacy of being faraway from my mother.. or maybe the void i feel inside of me for not being able to see you who i have been thinking about terribly regardless of all those things that happened... or maybe for not talking to nina for 2 weeks... or feeling missed out in nabil's life.. or wishing there was more rain in the morning.. or reminiscing on the way i lived my life all this while...
but then again, shouldn't all those things give me some inspiration if not a whole lot of them? i often catch myself being surprised by my own thoughts... obviously i have been babbling the whole while... thank you for your concern and time, though :)

Jadi, lain kali jangan gelakkan negara orang lain. Walaupun negara mereka mungkin tampil kurang "maju" berbanding negara anda, sekurang-kurangnya mereka tidak perlu pening kepala untuk memikirkan perkara yang tampak kecil tapi membawa impak besar ini.
batik... owh.. batik... nasib baik, kami ada batik :p
Name Dropping
There are people we know, people we know through people we already know, people we wish we knew, people who knows us from afar, people who needs to be known...
But it makes me wonder a lot when people drop famous names like they twirl around the "scene" being really important. Owh, he had a crush on me.. Owh, we used to date... Owh, he's my fling... Owh, this.. Owh, that.. Owh, my foot!
It doesn't matter what or who you date and know. it's who you are and how you appear to the world. To me, you sound ridiculously intwined in fantasies.
It's best I remind myself not to turn into this...

A Self Reminder
Sometimes, it startles me when people say that I'm a nice, goody two shoes girl. It creates a grain of fear in me that someday, I might disappoint these people who think so although I may say that I did not force them to believe it in the first place.
I mean, how would you define nice? If it's loosely captured by not drinking, no heavy partying, no smoking, no drug abuse and the likes of apparent "bad" behaviour, then I'm probably a nice person. But if nice is realised by always being kind no matter the situation, never having a bad thought about someone, never talk bad behind someone's back or always prioritising everybody else before me, then I'll have to pass on the "Good Award."
I wish that I can always be the good daughter to my mother, the good sister to my siblings, the good friend who my friends need, the good student my teachers adore, the good teacher my students adore. Amin.

Around The Pineapple Under The Sea
It's something like this...
*john and stevie sings me to sleep every night*
*time is only a concept heard before but never proven*
*toasts are never burnt*
*dogs are myths*
*lollypops are given out when you got to school*
*all the wayan brothers make me laugh until i cry*
*books are actually made to be read*
*we all fall in love with each other*
*everybody can swim any style they want to as long as they want to*
*as jay z is with beyonce, joe flizzow is with dayang (get it?)*
*everybody loves coffee*
*giraffes, koalas, pandas, iguanas and the fishes (tobi & vega) all play together in my backyard*
*no day is the bad hair day*
*cartoons are on 24 hours a day*
*soccer and rugby are played all day long*
*cars float at 60kmph*
*music makes the world spin around*

food galore
Some people scream when they realise that assignments are due only two weeks from now. Some might even cry... But not us. We had a panic attack so we decided to make a dish that appears to be a cross between sushi and kimchi (asian sungguh!). This can serve up to 10 normal human beings or 6 of people like me.
What you need:
1) a bowl of cooked rice mixed with two teaspoons of sesame oil (teaspoon, durra. it's only teaspoons ;p)
2) an ommelete (2 eggs)
3) a medium sized carrot (sliced into thin semi-circles)
4) 10 seaweed strips
5) pickled radish (the yellow thing in the picture)
6) a medium sized canned tuna (any flavour that suits you)
The steps are like the picture sequence.. I can't be bothered to type while watching White Chicks, can I? haha...

*put a generous amount of rice on the rough side of seaweed*

*place the tuna on the neatly placed carrots.. we used curry tuna, sweet chili tuna, lemon and cracked pepper tuna but don'tlah put them altogether in one roll*

*after rolling them, you'll have to put some water on the edges of the seaweed so that they can stick to each other*

*patiently slice them into considerably cute sizes.. i love them cute.. hehe*

Canned Fashion
Fashion might be an ever-changing affair for some. Trends come and leave like the clothes we change on our back everyday but just like those clothes, we repeat them with a different twist just for a slightly different look the next time. When we know (or think) people are not watching, we decide that on Friday, we can wear the exact same top and jeans we wore on Monday.. You know, because you think people are not watching...
That’s how the current fashion trends are too. While fashion gurus are saying boho is so 2004, the not-so-new line of foho clothings (who came up with such names?) seem to dominate the runways and sideways. And foho is actually sneakily simply boho with a little more glamour, you’ll just wear that boho mini frock with the embroidery details at the hems with a 3 inch heeled, knee length suede/leather boots instead of flat pumps or flippers and add some large gaga gold/silver accessories instead of beads. Wallah! boho to foho in uno momento.. They say it’s the clash of the decades, 70s meets 80s… I say it’s a case of ideas running dry and quick ways of finishing old stocks.
But of course, there’s an upside to it when you can quickly recycle anything you have the wardrobe without having to fear being called outdated or backwards in your fashion sense. I reckon you can pretty much get away with anything if you’re a fohemian. (my penaakulan mantik sorts out that boho comes from bohemian.. so foho must be a fohemian, right?). You’ll be just fine when you can actually explain how the clashes of the decades theory work…
Another thing is how the word “vintage” has been passed of as something that happens almost immediately. Vintage this, vintage that… Even a bag that has just been made yesterday is said to have a vintage value and that kind of defeats the whole purpose, doesn’t it? Vintage stuff are supposed to be collectable rares, not something you simply buy in a flea market and decide, “hey, that’s surely a vintage.” Well, not in my dictionary of cracked wisdom, at least. And please, please don’t let me get started on those unkindly revisiting puffy puffed sleeves. I mean, ever since Louis Vuitton had them for the Spring 2007 collection, everybody is going crazy over it when it’s actually translated into hideous for most of us.
Well, us being us would mean nothing if we just blindly follow these fashion critics and advocates, especially when most of them will say long maxi dresses are going to be IN next season when Eva Mendes, Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Alba all happen to wear them on the same week but hey, hey, turn around another fortnight from when that article was written and you’ll have the same writers swearing by their mothers that next season is going to be the leg worshipping lovers land of super micro-minis. And consider yourself very lucky if we are not rendered with other opinions and options the coming weeks because most of the time, they'll be repaying all those freebies dropping by their glossy office doors while you split your head into half trying to figure out which is which.
So my humble opinion is that you need to check out those fashion tips but really, you need to dress like how you feel and how you want to be comfortable. Don’t just succumb to what other people suggest blindly because suggestions can be a mile long and for all you know, nothing suits you. You know you can just make up a name like all those designers do and pepper them into your statements… I mean, hello! They’re humans too. Hurrrmmm… I think I’ll just call mine no-hoe! Self-explanatory, eyh?

The New Wonders!
I've been fascinated by the new 7 wonders of the world announced on 07.07.07, if I'm not mistaken. I'm thrilled because 4 of the ones I voted for made it to the list. Not bad eyh?
1) Great Wall of China- simply magnificient, tunggu saya tahun depan ;p (voted for)
2) Chichen Itza, Mexico- the gorgeous mayan temple but this is among my least favourite winner.

*image from http://www.creighton.edu/langlab/classes/spn202fs05/mexico2/chichenitza.jpg*
3) Christ Redeemer, Brazil- situated in Rio De Janeiro, it's more of a greeting and warm acceptance symbol than it is of a religious one.
4) Taj Mahal, India- if only everybody do fall in great love (voted for)
5) Machu Picchu, Peru- It's amazing how people of ancient civilisation could build a masterpiece in the middle of nowhere (somewhere near the Andes in the Amazon jungles) (voted for)

*image taken from http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/88/Peru_Machu_Picchu_Sunset.jpg/450px-Peru_Machu_Picchu_Sunset.jpg*
6)Petra, Jordan- my favourite winner, the red stone material and carved structure is of an entirely different level (voted for)

*image taken from http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e9/Khazneh.JPG/450px-Khazneh.JPG*
7) Colloseum, Italy-- it's an artful place made for a ruthless sport
The other three I voted for are:
1)Hagia Sophia, Turkey- for the very, very complicated history of the monument. It was first built as a church by the Byzantines before converted into a mosque by the Ottoman Empire in the 1500. It remains so until it was recently turned into a museum. Much disputes have been casted to claim the ownership of the building by several concerned parties and just by looking at it, I can see why.

*image taken from http://www.hartransom.org/Hart_Ransom/7_wonders/7wonders_lightfoot/images/Hagia%20Sophia1.jpg*
2)Stonehenge, UK- biaselah, things like this are worth being in the list.. haha
3)Pyramids of Giza, Egypt- self loving leaders, utmost worshipping of human being, sheer waste of revenues on symbolism... history tends to repeat itself in a vicious cycle and it's fun to see how long it would lead us on.

Laugh If You Can
I am in some desperate need to share what is in my head.. I wonder what some of the shows on tv will be called in Malay Language if I were to become a producer. I obviously had too much time to myself (and durra). Help me pick a winner, will you? ;)

Untuk Kali Ke-22

Untuk Muhammad Nabil Nor Kamal buat kali ke-22... Terima Kasih Atas Semuanya.
You're the friend, you're the rock,
For each problem, you're the helping hand,
You're my only refuge on this vague land,
I want to dedicate all these shining lamps,
And make you see how much you count,
In my life, yes, you define a steady ground,
Like Tupac and Jada we will lead beyond crime,
We will move forward across all the rhymes,
And spark all the love we have in our minds,
Transform it into books to fight hatemines,
For this tie we have in between us is,
True as we would see in specks of time...

Pukul 1 Pagi
It's 1.42am and it's really cold. My dumb ass neighbours on two different parts of the area (one in front the house and the other at the back)just had to play some drinking games now and wake up the entire Macquarie University Village. Let me assure you that this is definitely not the first time things like this has happenned. I feel like I'm living in some fraternity college I only saw on tv before I came here.
And this may be caused by the same neighbours who stopped me while I was on the way to class last thursday and insisted on getting to know Unit 82 better because "you need to love your neighbour because without love, nothing would exist. if you're good to me, i'll be good to you"
I guess you have just lost the right for me to be good to you. Tak guna muka je comel kalau perangai cam hantu...

What Are You?
I usually sit next to Shim during the linguistics class with Jean Brick, partly because he is such a good partner when it comes to discussions and the other part is because we happen to laugh and sneer at the same thing.
So as usual, during the 15 minutes break (due to the fact that LING316 is a 3 hour seminar class and you're lucky if I don't give up and go home during this break :p), we chatted and talked about stuff that are happening in our lives. Suddenly, a fellow classmate sitting in front of us turned and jumped into our conversation not by saying hi but just simply this:
Lady In Front (LIF): You're Chinese right?
Shim: errr.. I'm a Malaysian
LIF: yeah.. but you're a Chinese Malaysian right?
Shim: I would just say that I'm a Malaysian
LIF: And what are you? (directing her look at me)Are you a Malay or an Indian?
Me: I'm a Malaysian too
LIF: (looking exasperated) yeaaah.. but what are YOU?
Me: Well, my dad is an Malaysian Indian and my mum is a Malaysian Malay. So, I guess I'm a Malaysian
LIF: (looking even more exasperated)So you're an Indian Muslimlah right?
Me: errrr.. (murmuring under my breath) I'm a Malaysian
LIF: Ok, What are you? Are you a Muslim or a Hindu?
Me: Muslim
LIF: So you're an Indian Muslimlaaaah... (with a sense of triumph as if she has solved a mysterious puzzle)
Me:errkkk...
I just changed a knowing glance with Shim. It was pretty obvious that we both WANTED to appear that we weren't particularly happy with her labels and were uncomfortable with the conversation. Then she jumped to what she really wanted to say..
LIF: I was really amazed to hear the both of you talking in Bahasa... Don't you use English when you speak? I mean, I was born in Malaysia, in Ipoh, you know? But I have been raised in Singapore and I can't use the language except when I'm dealing in the market and I only can use very limited expressions
Shim: We do use English but the both of us are also comfortable with codeswitching since we're both bilinguals. Some topics are nicer/better discussed in Bahasa
LIF: Do they teach Bahasa in the school? I mean, is it compulsory?
Me: Yeah, it is and so is English (then I went on explaining a good deal of the Malaysian schooling system including the existence of vernacular schools and the recent introduction of ETEMS)
LIF: But then again, we don't use as much language in Mathematics and Science, right? Quite useless, right?
ME and Shim: Erkkk?? (jatuh kerusi sat)
LIF: They do teach our mother tongue in schools in Singapore but it's only an hour a day and quite purposeless because we don't really use it, you see?
Me and Shim: hurrmmm (nodding our head)
Luckily, the awkward situation was brought to a halt when Jean called for everybody's attention and started teaching again.. Pheeewww.. What A RELIEF! It was weird to have someone insisting that you have a race because clearly the both of us wanted to be known as something similar. We were both proud to be Malaysian because to say that I'm an Indian or Shim is a Chinese, we would necessarily be tracing down the origins of our ancestors who came to Malaya for the hope of a better life. They made the switch and we benefited. We were born in Malaysia so why do we actually need a tag that goes back probably a very, very substantial LONG time ago? Of course we are proud of our heritage but we're no doubt even more proud of our nation.
But to hear her complimenting on our proficiency of a unifying language, I was filled with a funny sensation. I noticed that both Shim and I were smiling at each other when she made that comment. I came to realise that it doesn't matter what they say about us or how they would like to question us. For me and Shim (and I'm sure the rest of my fellow Malaysians), we are indeed the same regardless of how we appear to the world.
Just thought I would share this video with the readers here. At many junctions in your life, you'll come to realise that all the money in the world will mean nothing without the beautiful people in your life. It's not the material beings or end products that count but it's the effort and thought that shine through... Thank You, Nina Yayang for the lovely clip. I'm sure that I can never top this (tambahan pula beta agak buta IT)

School of Jokes
During my school visits here in Sydney, I've been totally amused by both the students' and teachers' reactions/answers to questions. Sometimes, I can't help but to just laugh and burst out loud. Up until now, I've been to two schools that seem to be on the definite opposites as one is the best selective school in the state with reputable graduates while the other is a school that caters to students with relatively less ability in the English Language due to their circumstances as being new immigrants or refugees.
But trust me, kids are no different regardless of their learning experience and so are their teachers. I'll leave out the description of the schools to see whether you would notice which is which.. hehe
During the first day of my school visit, I asked this to the Head Teacher
Q: I can see that the school is very multicultural..
A: Yes, we have a lot of students from Asia, some are from India
Q: I see (dalam hati: wey, India IS in Asia.. How much did you score in your Geography?)
This scenario took place in an intermediate level classroom, where the teacher was teaching about metaphors and indirectly jumped into coping with the right social skills and a chinese boy commented on gaily
Teacher: So girls, what would you do when a man asks you out? he's handsome, he's rich
Boy: But teacher, if the man is handsome and rich, he won't find them (pointing to the girls)
A teacher taking the roll actually said this
Teacher: Okay, we'll start by taking the roll now. If you're here, raise your hand or say yes. if you're not here, don't say anything
A Chemistry teacher in a Year 12 (Form 6) class asked the only two Indian boys in a class filled with Chinese students to take a specimen from the top shelf
Teacher: Could you two boys at the back there actually make some use of your heights and get that things from up there? We obviously don't have anyone else for that purpose
I believe I won't easily be bored in my future teaching years

An Old Affair
Is it just me or have most of us arrived at the age where all you can talk about most of the time is when and how you want to get married? Somehow, that topic is the hottest one in my house and we slip into it easily from a topic as random as buying the groceries for the week. Example (might happen) as follows:
D: Eh, do we want to buy groceries tomorrow?
A: I don't know.. I don't mind.. Takde benda nak masak dah ni..
N: Kalau you dah kahwin, you rasa you masak tak selalu?
A: Mestilah kot... Kesian plak my husband bila dah balik penat2 tu...
S: Tapi kita pun must be tired balik kerja
A: Isshh, suami itu didahulukan
See? Very effortlessly we do so and I can assure you that the topic will then be manoeuvered further into more detail accounts of the colour of the wedding frock, what the theme would be on that one single tick... It's all in our head, just waiting for the burst!
Sometimes when I see an old couple holding hands and walking down the park, just feeling content in each others presence, the jealousy wells up in me. I wish that I will meet someone who will stay even when I'm bend with fraility and age. Someone who needs me so much that I can't help but to need him back. Just the thought of it makes me smile with an absurd shyness that it is almost possible someone might capture what I'm thinking and turn it into a song so that it reaches the other shore.
Well, so much for being a romantic idiot. I honestly think that I would probably get married with someone my mum thinks suits me since I suck at finding a partner but the daydreaming part is just too tempting... hurrrmmm... nak kad kahwin colour ape ye?

What Did You Say?
Hearing some people talk can drive me nuts. It's absolutely amazing how people say things without even noticing them half of the time and as the listener, you swear that you will tell them off next time.. But we never do and it makes me wonder why we silently endure them.
One example I can give you is when people exaggerate something with the word "ever". Having someone saying "it's the best thing in the history for like...EVER" is ridiculous.. I mean, iff it's already in the history, we would understand that it had to be something that never happened EVER.. The intensifier is not needed and we could spare the one second that you've just spent on saying "ever" to do something more useful like wondering what the hell the Paris Hilton Action Hero cartoon would be like or how would we describe Baby Spice's baby?(i decided to go with Baby Spice's baby anyway :p)
Another thing is using the likes and some sorts like pepperoni on pizza in your speech... If you can't hold a thought in your mind, give us the honour to sleep while you do rather than having us hanging by the bore thread trying to wait for what might come after the "like" and the "some sort".. I've grown so accustomed with those likes now that I've created a game called Guessing a Rhyme for it... "hurrrmmm... he might say bikini or would it be salami or probably mee maggi?"
The art of speaking is hard to master despite it being one of the things that we acquire so early in life. So it explains why sometimes it's better to just shut up and drive :p

The Change of Heart
The USA presidential election will be held in a year time in a million miles away but I could already feel the heat of it. Names like Mitt Romney, Tom Trancredo, John McCain, Hillary Clinton and my personal favourite item of scrutiny, Barack Obama have peppered most of my current readings and become an agenda of global interest. It is simply because unarguably, the States and its proprietors directly affect the current global political climate. When most nations' foreign policy seem to focus on "how we should all stay together" or "i don't mess with you so don't mess with me", the States has, in recent time, appeared to be more interested on "it's not our fault so how we could drag others into our problems and blame them whether they like it or not?". It has created a lot of debates and division among the USA citizens (and the rest of the world) as the impact is felt in other domains as well.
Thus it explains why every candidate is supposed to plough a foreign policy that would fundamentally reflect what their office would be and it should also be something that he/she should be able to stand by with. However, being under the watch of everyone, it becomes incredibly easy to see how people crack down under the eminent pressure. For example, Obama has since changed his future foreign policy and despite having been a strong opponent of the Iraq war even before he was appointed as a Senator, he just recently promised that he would send more troops to Pakistan to curb and prevent terrorism because he believes this is where the terrosrism should be fought. Not coincidentally, that was approximately a week after Clinton called his previous foreign policy which focused on bringing back troops from the Gulf as "a naive attempt". Although McCain and Giulani from the Republican side both had policies that were more worrying as they were still planning on continuing what Bush has started, by any respect, the direction that Obama took appears rather fishy and I cannot help but to feel that it was somehow just a scapegoat.
It is obvious that he cannot take back his views and retract his stand on Iraq but what he can do is to find someone else to take the blame now. Judging from his current move, if by any chance he managed to achieve the slightest victory in his foreign policy, he would then become the one to prove that the Bush administration was indeed miscalculated and failed. But by then, damages would have already been done and two nations would have been rampaged on directly regardless of the degree of their participation in what appears to be a self-obssessed fight against terrorism. Yet, Obama seemed to please the majority of voters with this current policy. Politically speaking, to have a democrat subtly agreeing to what a republican has been doing for the past ten years is probably benefiting Obama in ways some other candidates couldn't possibly achieve. Some liberatians and republicans have come up saying that if they were to vote Obama, it would not be because he agrees with them or because he doesn't, but instead because he looks like he would at least take their opinion into consideration. Okay, fine.. he is trying to become someone who wants to satisfy everybody's need yet is that necessarily good?
It is certainly alarming to discover this new revelation considering that Obama has been my favourite candidate for the election. I remembered when he cleverly called the urgent need for the States to become the patron of everything good and rectify every bad as an "innocence", which is actually what Bush relates to as being "the police of the world" (amazing how just choice of words can change the whole concept)... He believes in cultural relativism but also transpires the fact that the American moral is indeed a bit superior, if I may say. He doesn't believe in change just for the sake of it and often insists on not accusing anyone over anything at all. Although he plausibly tells the inconvenient truth, Obama still doesn't quite appear to be in the category of aggressive orators as what half of the presidential candidates just essentially are. All of his other policies, including the applaudable health policy that will cause the Roger Moore's Sicko to be a flop had it already been imposed, seem to have claimed a place in my head as a sure winner.
He looked like something that the States could really use, something that could retain their dignity but still make them appear humble. Someone even other people might like. Yet his current shift has stirred a certain kind of anguish in me. It made me realise that Obama too probably just wants to win the election. Even if it means that he has to become something he has preached not to be.

Kaleidoscope
This is the new ad for Bonds Kaleidoscope summer underwear range. It features healthy and youthful girls dancing to the song. I just can't get it out of my system and that's how good it is. What makes me feel really interested with this campaign is that they didn't overtly sexualise the girls. They still looked good and jumpy but they appeared like decent human beings. Why i say that? Well, other underwear campaigns have the girls looking all sultry and let's face it, for girls, that's a turn off. Well, I just love this whole concept of youth and energy...hehe. Which reminds me, i've got to get them for myself too.. :p

Air Mata Darah
The headlines on a Malaysian online newspaper today, (05 August 2007) centralised on the opinion of the PM on Freedom of Speech issue. The whole article and the speech that has been quoted were a bit absurd for me. It is frightening to hear a threat on your freedom, especially when they say that they CAN take it away and even your bloody tears will have no effect on them.
For all I know, he might have said it with love and I might have taken it out of context but what I read made me feel less likely to stay on my goody two shoes. Owh well, my reality might be another fiction thrown out of proportion but if I felt that way, how many others out there think so too? any, of not many...

What The?
Toyota is planning to sue the Australian cheap airline giant, Jetstar for intellectual property theft of the JUMP.. Yes, both parties had/is having a campaign where all the satisfied customers demonstrate a JUMP out of happiness and satisfaction.. Toyota claims that they came up with their "What A Great Feeling" campaign first, thus JetStar has no right what so ever to feature people doing the JUMP too.
Silly me to think that JUMPing is just basic human right... I know for a fact that elephants can't JUMP but I wasn't aware that now it's an intellectual property.. Kangaroos and frogs must be pretty smart then, right?

Longing for..
Last night, I couldn't bring myself to sleep. I missed home so much. Suddenly, my cosy bed just isn't cosy enough. I looked at the half moon from the window and wished my friends and family are looking at it too, remembering each other.
I missed waking up in the morning and need not think about what to eat. Breakie is almost always ready; tosai or french toast, nasi lemak or mihun goreng. The kids are almost always entertaining; the ditzy (yes, ditzy) Fifi, the polite Aidid, the brash Icha, the cutie Mikhail, the blurry Asha.. Mummy was always there, full on. One who says "I hardly think that you're sexy in anything because you're my daughter and I obviously don't see you in that light".. blaaaah!! One who says "Balik hari ni ke esok ye?" when I step out of the house.
I missed all those all day/early morning/late night sessions with Nina. I think I haven't said enough about her and how much I love her. Have I ever felt bored with her? No. Have I ever resorted to staying away? No. Because I think she's probably the closest thing I have for a soulmate. And to think that she used to hate me... hehe.
I missed going to La Zeez and eating tauhu goreng while watching football. It's sometimes puzzling to discover that we actually go to La Zeez almost every night regardless of where we have been the whole day. These trips wouldn't be perfect without Nabil and/or Acap. Sometimes I think I'll be partially depressed if it weren't for these two people. We follow each other around as if we're obliged to. Together, we go to breakfasts, dinners, lunches, suppers, watch movies, shopping, sports, annoy each other as hell, pretending to be cool..
And on this Sunday morning with me locked in my room eating sandwiches and drinking a mug of coffee, everything seemed so far away. Geez, how come all those small things that always seem to matter don't appear so while it's happenning?

In A Flash
I was in bad luck today. I only heard stories about how it happenned to other people before but despite having read so many experiences and swore that I'd be prepared, I was equally traumatised when it happened to me.
Was walking back with Syada during the one hour afternoon break (1pm). As we approached the postbox area, I saw a 50ish year old Caucasian man wearing sunnies (in the rain) and a blue windbreaker smiling at us. I smiled back as would be expected and as I was averting my eyes from him, I saw something that I shouldn't have. We acted cool because both of us knew that if we expressed any signs of shock or fear, he would only be happier.
I tried calling the security and the administration office to alert them but unfortunately, they weren't picked up. Girls, I don't mean to cause any panic but just be careful the next time you're walking around the village. Demented people are all around...

Sweet To The Eyes
a) Apple Crumble is easy and fast.. Give it a try : )
Ingredients: 4 Granny Smith Apples, 3 tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 cup of plain flour, 4 tablespoon of caster sugar, 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (almonds/pecans/hazelnut- blender pun boleh kalau nak), 60g of butter chopped
How To:
1) Peel the apples and chop each of them into eights. Then chop each of the eights into two. (kirenya adalah 16 pieces from each apple in cube shapes)
2) Cook the apples in a saucepan with the 3 tablespoon of sugar and a little bit (around two table spoon)of water. Use medium/ low-medium heat so that the mixture simmers. Let it simmer until the apples are soft (would normally take around 15 minutes). When the apples are soft, place them in a pie dish.
*While that mixture simmers, preheat the oven to about 190 degrees for 10 minutes (it might vary according to the keganasan of your oven- mine would probably require just 170 degrees)
3) Now for the topping, mix the flour, caster sugar and nuts in a bowl. Then, add the butter in three different intervals. Mix them thoroughly
4) Top the apples in the pie dish with the flour mixture. Then, pop it into the oven for 25 minutes or until the topping is golden brown
Jeng Jeng Jeng.. there you have a dessert ready for 6 people. Kalau nak sedap lagi, serve with ice cream vanilla lalala
b) Caramel Apple Pudding is another favourite. It takes considerably more time but it's worth it
Ingredients: 4 pink lady apples, 185g butter, 3/4 cup honey, 1 cup thickened cream, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 cups plain flour, 2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 egg
How to:
1) Cut the apples into quarters. Cook half of the apples with 10g of butter (2 teaspoons) until light golden over a medium-high heat. Remove the cooked apples and repeat the step with the remaining apples and another 10g of butter.
2) Now, add 40g of butter, 1/2 cup honey, 1/2 cup of cream and two table sppons of brown sugar to a pan. Cook until it boils and thickened (be sure to stir occasionally untuk ngelakkan melekat). In the meanwhile, pre heat the oven into 180 degrees
3) When the sauce has already thickened, add the apples into the sauce and stir. make sure that all the apples are coated with the caramel sauce. When it's done, spoon the caramel coated apples into a suitable dish
4) Chop the remaining 125g of butter to be added into the flour, baking powder and two tablespoons of brown sugar mixture in the food processor. Process until it's like a kasar breadcrumbs.
5)Combine egg, 1/2 cup of cream and remaining honey in a different bowl. Beat until it's well mixed. Then add and stir them into the coarse floor mixture. You would get a sticky dough by then.
6) Just spoon the sticky dough over the apple mixture until it's well covered and bake for about 40 minutes.
*or cucuk dengan lidi over the crumble topping and when it comes out clean, dah masaklah tu*
Jeng Jeng Jeng.. siap dah dessert for 6 people gak.. hehe. Feel free to serve with ice cream of you could also dust the topping with icing sugar.
(actually you can do up to step 3 about 4 hours earlier or so then just cover and refrigerate if you think it's too much to do all at once)

When It's Stretched Over The Limit...
As a blogger, you will accidently know other bloggers too. Although we rarely tell each other that but that’s the truth. Everyday, you read what others have to say to feed your own mind and decide if the world is on your side. So, it devastated the hell out of me when I found out that a fellow blogger, who I don’t personally know but have always admired for his boldness and the straight-forward manner in his writing, was expelled from his institution just because he has something to say in his blog.
I feel for this blogger. What on earth does the institution have to defend themselves anyway? I’ve read all 6 articles that is said to have cost him the place there and could hardly see what the institution is getting all heated about. What I saw was earnest suggestions and room for improvement. Yes, some of the lecturers are not good in their command of the English Language and yes, you should always think of a good set of objectives and outcomes if you want to take up the students’ time and money to organise an event. The “membuta tuli” culture should be out of our system and whenever possible, institutions especially educational ones should uphold the notion of accepting new idea and progress into new frontiers.
Which of course brings us back to these questions. Are we always supposed to follow what the others have done and are not entitled to our thoughts just because we “owe” a certain institution something? (although I hardly count giving a seat or position when you utmostly deserved it as a debt in the first place). If we pride so much on being a free nation, why are we so afraid of opinions and new thoughts? Freedom of speech as long as it does not interfere with the nation security should be practiced and pondered upon. If we are to move forward, why are we still stuck in the old mindset? We should be able to accept criticism and reality when someone puts it in our face. What bites me is the fact that the institution actually read the 6 articles and expelled this student instead of giving a serious thought on the issues he outlined in them. Talking about being childish…
For me, I feel that it doesn’t mean that if you are working for the government, you need to be on their ruling party side. I don’t recall the Malaysian Constitution ever saying that and I bet my guts that it doesn’t. Having heard some really good academics being targeted for their boldness in giving opinions makes my heart leap a beat. It’s our 50th Independence Celebration so I would say this whole fiasco is not what we would mark our development with. Make up your mind and stand by it. To YOU, all my heartfelt support goes out sincerely..

What More There Is To Do?
What more there is to do?
When life is a single note of blue,
And the tunes never seemed true,
I didn't have a tick of clue,
And it was never a crystal you...
What more there is to do?
I wake up and think of you,
To dwell in the memory of few,
Stuck in my views as youth glued,
The thought of a heart being slew...
*Chitra Banerjee once wrote in one of her books that sometimes in order to overcome sorrow, we need to attain it through the corridor of pain... For all the pain, I hope I find happiness again. You ultimately deserve what you have now and if you're happy with what you have, I silently know that Allah has made a person fit for their partner.*

You Know It When...
You know you're friends when she ask you to hold her stuff while she plays netball and you don't mind doing so as long as you are not in rush for something
You know you're good friends when she says she hopes to be sent to the same jail with you when the two of you get caught shoplifting the next time
You know you're close friends when she holds the towel for you while you change your clothes and you don't feel uncomfortable
You know you're best friends when she tells you that your nose hair is hanging out and you feel relieved (instead of ashamed) that she told you
You know you're the bestest of friends when she gives up her quilt for you when it's 2 degrees at night and she has nothing else to rug up to

Finally
I feel completely rejuvenated after returning from wellington and seeing nina, nisya and aimi. Suddenly, all the burden and hardships becomes a little more lighter. Alhamdulillah, we all still have each other. For all the love and sacrifices, we look at one another and realise our strengths. Thank you for being the beautiful people that you are... Mari terus menjadi jadi Ahli Pelompat bila kembali ke Malaysia :P
And I'm also lucky to have survived a crush... a delightful sense of crush I haven't felt in quite a while. Insya Allah, life is turning in ways that I never thought possible. Ana is a slightly changed person and hopefully, for the betterment...
Saya akan menyusul ke wellington lagi.. bila?? lalalala

The Documentation of Life
The famous revolutionary Chinese architect, Ai Wei Wei (who I admire for his take on China and art) said we're not supposed to leave anything in our life undocumented... Well, who knows what might arise from it?

my bathroom

my so-called shrine (notice all those sugar)

the centre of distraction in the room

bed+entertainment lounge+workspace
I'll dearly miss this little space I've haunted while my stay here... Where else would I find a better place other than this little shack of love to laugh and cry alone in?

Spicy Reunion
Should I be afraid or thrilled that the Spice Girls is planning for a reunion?? In a world where the news of paris' release from the jail where she lived without seeing the sun and blue sky for 23 days seems to overshadow that of Tony Blair leaving his office after 10 years of administration, it is all possible that the Spice Girls is here to stay despite the lack of quality in their material.. Believe the hype?? I suggest you wait and see before they decide that they're far too old for girl power already (unless girl power is re-defined as having children "independently" as Mel B, Emma and Geri already have.. muahaha)
owh well, time to bring out your Spice polaroid camera and pose in outrageous animal prints with crazee hair accompanied with a burst of the Spice Up cologne spray (don't lie, we all had one :P)

What on Earth is Wrong with Me Today?
I don't usually write about my daily grinds but let me assure you that it has been a bizzare day for me today (28 June 2007). I woke up at 5.45am feeling totally cranky, went to take the wudhu' but I only turned the hot water on. Dear skin of mine was slightly burnt but it is still not too bad.. As I was reading the quran, my legs suddenly went really numb and I couldn't move from where I sat. So, I slept on the sejadah je.
After waking up at around 8.30am, I went to take my bath and realised that I've ran out of scrub. Wanted to brush my teeth and realised that I've ran out of Listerine. Went to take my breakfast and realised that my bread is fungal-infested. Wanted to take my iron supplement and noticed that I've only got some to last three days. Owh well, that's not that bad. Ate some cereal and drank my last cup of juice.
Went through all the usual sites and bashed some people at the forum. Kasihan, she didn't do anything to me but I can't help but to be mean. Checked my e-mail and remembered that I haven't checked my library account. Went to check it and realised that I have an outstanding item that needs to be returned. The only catch is that I have NO CLUE what so ever about the book. Baik, I'll just go to the library and clarify things.
While walking to the library, the clouds decided to drench itself down and I didn't bring an umbrella. My newly bought hat had to cater to the downpour. Reached the library and explained the situation to the librarian. They say there's nothing they can do as the book is under my account and it's my responsibility. I'll have to replace the book plus the overdue fine until the day I actually pay for the lost book's price. Okay, so I went to Macquarie Centre to buy some groceries and aided the things that have finished. Suprisingly, no shops have Listerine and my iron tablets are currently out of stock.
While walking back home, it was raining heavily. On the way in the midst of the heavy rain, an assumedly-Indian guy stopped me and asked my where X5B is in Hindi. I made a blurry face and told him I don't speak his language. He repeated the question in English and I annoyedly replied in a heavily Indian accented English. As it was raining cats and dogs,I hung out at the library and read some things. I walked back home after I've finished all I wanted to read. It was still raining. After reaching home, realised that I didn't bring my keys. Waited for Nisa to come back for another hour. Ate a regular Bondi burger, Nina called and ensured me of my accomodation in NZ. Realised that I haven't done any preparation for the travel
Been cranky, cranky, cranky today.. tried to be happy, happy, happy today. Then it hit me. Exactly one year ago on this day, I declared myself as the happiest person on planet earth. He was with me and this year, no longer by my side. One year, you're a stranger.. another, you're my sun.. the other, you're a stranger again. What on earth is wrong with me again? I've lost, I've found, I've recovered, I've discovered

I'm Feeling Ayo Today
I've been addicted to Ayo's music these few days.. Who is Ayo?? Ayo is a German-born whose father is a Nigerian and mother is a Gypsy. She lives in between France and New York, as her career is based at these places. Ayo means Joy in the Nigerian dialect of Yuroba. Ayo's music is a rich mixture of folk, soul & reggae with a very deep influence of the french chic suave waves. Her lyrics are possessed with elements of raw emotions, not sappy and corny yet suprisingly true and free of boundaries. I simply love her voice and songs.. Troubadour is not dead yet after all, people.. have a listen and judge for yourself :)
Usik- Usik Che' Wan
This week, I devoted an hour and half talking to Che Wan aka Mummy.. You cannot predict my mother, yes... you CANNOT.. so, stop wondering why i am opinionated and not afraid to be so.. hehe
Topic~ 50th merdeka celebration
Mummy: I heard they're having it in Putrajaya lagi walaupun it's the 50th celebration. I don't like the fact yang Putrajaya is now centre of attention macam kita lupa our heritage. Bukannya Dataran Merdeka dah tenggelam or anything.. at least, for the 50th celebration, we must use the Stadium Merdeka or Dataran Merdeka where it all started. Funny how Melayu mudah lupa...
Me: hello, not only Melayu lives in Malaysia
Mummy: hello, let's not forget Melayu mudah lupa...
Me: what's that supposed to mean?
Mummy: we think we are the only ones living in the country, Melayu mudah lupa, see?
Me: I see (??!!)
Topic~Nabil's Sister wedding
Mummy: I terkejut he came... actually I tahu dia nak hantar kad jemputan but I pura-pura suprised.. lagipun belum 9 bulan lagi kan?? hehehe
Me: owwhh... you pergi tak??
Mummy: Nolah, it was raining heavily... Nanti basah pulak karpet merah yang menyambut I.. haha..
Topic~The Price of Things in Malaysia
Me: I heard things are getting very expensive in Malaysia... there are even some things being rationed right??
Mummy: yes, and i'm using different options now... I use honey instead of sugar, I use non-stick pan instead of using oil.. see, there's a hikmah behind things. at least now, we're eating healthier...
Topic~ IKON Malaysia
Mummy: It's very hard to decide and pilih between dayang and jac.. who do i vote for?
Me: Owh, dayang is having another SNL next month
Mummy: No point telling me that... only tambahkan susah i nak pilih
Me: seriously?? hurrrmmm... okay
Mummy: I was just joking... I pilih Reshmonu.. haha
Me: ok (??!!!)
Mummy: No, no.. seriously, it's Dayang.. I yakin..
Me: ok (???!!)
Topic~Weather
Mummy: Memang hujan sangat lebat sekarang, I pun dah malas nak basuh baju sebab macam tak guna I basuh and semua tak kering... If I was a millionaire, I pakai buang je all my baju.
Me: Yeah, think of all the people who barely have clothes
Mummy: Think of all the people who aren't millionaires and cume cakap je kan?
Topic~Osteoporosis
Mummy: I'm drinking skim milk now... We should take care of our health, not only our looks. You see, most of my friends semua sibuk nak suntik collagen, botox and all kat beauticians but rarely do their yearly check ups or a pap smear or anything else kat hospital. Susu is only RM4 sekotak, botox tu sape nak jawab??
Me: true.. true
Mummy: Speaking of which, I anggap you don't need a pap test yet right??
Me: Of course not!
Mummy: Glad to hear that.. hehehe
Saya geleng-geleng kepala, how about you?

Good Deeds Indeed
When you see someone is being harassed or worst, shot in front of your eyes, what would you do? Would you run to their rescue or would you rather turn a blind eye and run the other way?
These questions ran through my mind after the news of the death of a Good Samaritan in Melbourne CBD last weekend. The fellow was trying to save two people who were the target of a shooter and in the end, he was the one who got shot and died at the crime scene while the targeted victims are now being treated in the hospital for serious injuries. If you ask me, yes, I think that is very noble of him but if you further probe me with the dilemma of whether or not I'd do the same thing, the first answer that popped into my mind was "Giler.. I don't even know these people"
Huh, a proof of how selfish and ignorant I am and as I watched the news, I came to realise that it was also the opinion of half the people interviewed with the same question. Of course, we all do not want to be known as nasty and tragic people but reality bites you at the tip of your soul when you realise that you are not who you preached to be. We all want to be noble but to tell you the truth, we don't have the courage to.
Which reminds me of the story of 6 soldiers killed in Iraq on the same morning of the Virginia Massacre. The story was told in TIMES and caught my attention because it showed how romanticised some views of the world can be and to be specified, that of nobility is largely the case. Half of the poor souls drafted off to fight a war that is not theirs weren't even aware of what awaits them. The harsh reality of death being at your doorstep finally bang them right at the back of their mind when they came to discover that everyday, at least one of their fellow comrades is dying or has died at some part of Iraq. One of the most chilling comment made by a 25-year old soldier in an e-mail to his father a few days before he died was that "Hell had an address after all"
How noble do you have to be to be called a noble person? To stand in front of a person being shot? To be drafted to Iraq for an aimless war? Or just to do what you can to change the world in your way? After all, who would turn twice and look at your nobility when it is not on the tv and paper.. Question: Does it matter who sees what you do?

Of 0 (and smaller)
Whenever I hear people complaining about their weight and going on about how they should start dieting, I look at them with envy and a tinge of disbelief.. Whatever for do you need to shed those kilos? I think you look fine as it is *sigh*
To let you in on a secret, I have been reduced to buying some things from the kids department which of course do not accomodate to what I'm looking for... Being a size 0 (or for my case, a 00 at times) is not a privilege when haute couture is not your policy. Of course, Tom Ford and John Galliano think of us but most other designers start their collections at an 4 and absent-mindedly discriminate people who are smaller (yes, i consciously used the word "discriminate")
Seriously, it is hard to describe the disappointment when the shop assistant tells you, "Sorry, that's the smallest size we have right now and will ever have for that matter.' Snap, Snap..even that is humongous for my standard. Ok, to your defence, I do admit that I need some things to be as tight as it can but still that is most of the time not achievable.
And not to forget the sly looks from people when you try on clothes with the statement scribbled all over their face going "uuhhh.. I bet she throws up each time she eats".. Well, far from truth, I eat like a Godzilla and would never think of throwing up for whatever reason except if the food sucks, of course. Other than that, nope.. I do eat like a Godzilla. So, why the stereotype?
So, all I can say is love the body that you're in... It's a canvas of your soul, a cage for your life. You are lucky if you have a complete one,if otherwise consider yourself gifted in ways you couldn't imagine... Stop listening to people saying that size 0 is the way to go because they are not you and will never be you.

Why owh Why?
1) Why owh Why is Lindsay Lohan the hottest femme in the FHM's 100 Sexiest Females? It couldn't be more degrading than that...
2) Why owh Why is a papaya called a pawpaw in aussie? PawPaw?? PawPaw?? you gotta be kidding me..
3) Why owh Why did Perez say that Lil Mama is hotter than Jay Z? that's totally absurd and must be the crappiest statement ever typed by those malicious fingers. One, he could be outta his mind for labelling a girl who raps about lip gloss better than the H.O.V.A himself.. Second, Lil Mama-what-ever might be doing some free stinky shows for Perez and the gang...
4) Why owh Why is there still racial tension in Malaysia? I fear for my kids and the future... Let's hold hands and unite. Malaysians Against Racism
5) Why owh Why am I so fascinated by other people's life? I don't know them but I read their blogs on a daily basis and mock them. Does it prove that I'm any better than them?
6) Why owh Why did I need a reason to be happy? I should be thankful for all the things I have in life kan? :p

Where Do I Stand In The Line?
I was at Auburn the other day, politely lining up in the kebab shop trying to buy nasi briyani for Syada. Waited for almost 5 minutes, the waiters brushed me aside as though I was transparent. They entertained other customers who came way after me, one even said "yes?" to me and quickly averted his look to the guy who came just two seconds ago next to me.. I was dumbfounded and looked at Tasha, Fariza and Hana.. Tasha said in a matter-of-factly manner, "Owh yeah, it took us forever to get our orders taken too but there weren't many people when we came so I guess they HAD to take our orders".. the suspected reason for such rudeness was that I was a female and I had to come next and least after all. I left after 7 minutes because I have some pride to save too.
Hey Kebab-Walla, I have a better suggestion for you. Why don't you put a sign in front of your shop saying "We Don't Do Chicks"?? That would've saved me a whole lot of time and gave you more opportunity to serve your people. Plus, Tasha wouldn't have to "seek revenge" for me too.. haha

Do What You Are Best In
caution: this is the complaining side of ana, you might want to skip if you hate listening to complains.
I'm not a grammar-orientated person, I'm not a traditionalist when it comes to language approach, I'm not a self-proclaimed English Language expert, I'm just a reader who loves to read things and understand them... So, if you are not really familiar with or proficient in the English Language, I suggest you write in your own vernacular because it's too mind numbing sometimes when I have to spend three minutes trying to figure out what "jose has giving all the cats a shot" means... If you have a point, make it completely yours by saying it right.
note to self: always remember to check for mistakes in your up-coming posts now that you have complained about others :p

The Indianisation of Life
there is a theory that by the end of this 21st century, everybody will speak a patois of the hindi language. fyi, i am an enthusiast of hindi movies and indian writers. i find the indian culture utterly fascinating because it is sooooo confusing and is at the crossroad of modernity. I was inspired to post this entry simply because I have been seeing a lot of cute North Indian bois hanging around in uni, so I begun to wonder how some movies would be called if they're to be indianised...
